Typical large tides are due to a bulge from the h2o masking the surface from the earth. Higher tides happen on both sides of the earth at the same time. The h2o over the facet closest to your moon bulges out as it is currently being sucked with the gravitational pressure in the moon.The tide is for that reason amplified because it moves shoreward.
